SGM Transitions out of Gastromotiva

We have exciting news to share with you! Today we are starting a transition out of Gastromotiva to become a registered foundation in Switzerland to serve our community in the best way. As many of you may know, SGM was an initiative incubated  by Gastromotiva and Cargill in January 2018. We started as a two-year pilot and was officially presented during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. This transition marks a new beginning for us and our community.

“The SGM was conceived and nurtured in its first years of life thanks to Gastromotiva and its connecting webs. Now as a mother raising her child for the world, it is time to reframe the relationship and gain independence. So that we can provide every individual, every organization, every activist who works with the power of food to create change with a sense of belonging. It is only once we find, support, and collaborate with each other can we ask others to create and amplify our impact. This is our first step of many and we hope you will all join us in creating this global community,” said Nicola Gryczka, co-founder of SGM.

“Gastromotiva fully embraced its role building the initial structure and resources for the Social Gastronomy Movement,” said David Hertz, founder of Gastromotiva. “After three years of working closely together, it is now the perfect time for SGM to become a new organization. I’m sure the movement will continue empowering organizations and individuals that support the most vulnerable and building a more equitable world.”

To celebrate our transition, we are also thrilled to unveil our refreshed brand identity. The updates will show the evolution of our network since it was founded in 2018. Over the last few months, we have worked hard to create a brand image that shows what SGM stands for as an organization. While this is a big change, our core values and our mission have remained the same. We are committed to you and we’d like to take the opportunity to thank our loyal community partners for your trust and support.

The Future of SGM

Upon reaching this new milestone, we are focusing on several priorities:

  • SGM will become an umbrella organization to our community, engaging stakeholders and people from the food systems towards social change.

  • The official Social Gastronomy Movement Foundation will be registered in Zurich Switzerland with a fully decentralized team across the globe, closely integrated with the SGM Hubs.

  • As of the completion of the separation and to make sure this transition ensures the continuity and growth of both initiatives, the SGM team will comprise of:

    • Nicola Gryczka as one of the co-founders will take the lead of SGMs next stage, and will remain as an advisor to Gastromotiva in 2020 and a member of the Board in 2021

    • David Hertz and Patrick Honauer remain co-founders and Thinking Partners, being stewards of the mission and vision closely working with the back bone team
