Solidarity must spread faster than COVID-19

Food Solidarity Statement SGM

COVID-19 is placing immense pressure on our communities and on the underlying economic system needed to support our citizens. More people are being thrust into poverty like never before.

The Social Gastronomy Movement (SGM) community, a global network of interconnected communities, will work as we always have to promote local solutions in an effort to cultivate connections, collaborations, and partnerships that strengthen our individual and collective capacity to co-create an equitable future, inclusive society, and healthy planet.

During the pandemic, the SGM team will use its preexisting work and network to convene global dialogues for the SGM community to share and discover the emerging local solutions to common challenges. We will support our community to host a space to co-create local collaborative actions to combat the food and economic insecurity facing our fellow citizens, while accelerating the effectiveness of emerging solutions by connecting to key stakeholders that can support.

Guided by our community values of service, collaboration, and equity, we endeavor to use this crisis as a way to rethink how governments, private sector, and civil society provide basic needs to those most vulnerable in our communities.

We will give visibility to and amplify the voices of the most vulnerable in our communities, those most impacted by this unprecedented crisis.

We will tell the stories surfacing in our networks and communities as a way to direct focus and attention to the greatest needs.

We will inspire solidarity through food for collaborative community-led solutions.
