Gastromotiva and The Social Gastronomy Movement debate food waste and climate change at Colaboramerica 2019

This innovation and new economy festival was held at “Museu do Amanhã”, Rio

de Janeiro.

On November 30, The Museum of Tomorrow in  Rio de Janeiro hosted the 4th edition of Colaboramerica: a collaboration, technology and new economy festival. This year’s event was centred around the “Art Of The Encounter”, and various participants addressed The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the programming, Gastromotiva chaired a food waste and climate change panel.  Based on two of our pillars, Healthy Individuals and Environment, this panel focused on how managing food waste is one of the most basic ways of optimizing our impact on the planet and save resources, as well as ensuring that each human being eats well and nutritiously.

The panel was made up of Suzana Torres, a cook at Refettorio Gastromotiva, a space that offers no-waste dinners to socially vulnerable people; Alcione Silva, founder of the start-up Connecting Food, which connects donors with social organizations in need of food donations and Pedro Regoto, a Master’s student in Meteorology at The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Leonardo Menezes, content manager at The Museum of Tomorrow, also participated as the facilitator.
